Koh Samui and Koh Pha-ngan are recognised as Thailand's party islands, but Phuket nightlife has slowly been creeping up and many of the promoters and club owner who reside on Samui are coming over to check out what Phuket has to offer. Tired of the cutthroat politics of Koh Samui, Phuket is the natural alternative.

Phuket is large, it attracts upwards of five million tourists a year and it is full of money. For a long time, Phuket nightlife was focused on nothing more than local Thai clubs, but gradually the discos invaded and the scene began to evolve.

As well as the regular tourist haunts, such as Banana in Patong and Timberhut in Phuket City, there are a few venues that have really been pushing boundaries in the past 12 months.

Perhaps no club has done more to help develop Phuket nightlife than Club Lime at Patong Beach. Club Lime was really the first club to expose the island to large doses of breaks, electro and even drum n bass.

Also at Patong Beach is Seduction. For the most part, Seduction is aimed at mass tourists, with loud pop-dance music and hip hop, but every now and then the owners take it a bit further, as was shown when they booked the likes of Louie Vega and Judge Jules. There were even rumors that Tiesto was due to make an appearance, but the deal fell through.

Phuket nightlife has a lot to offer, but the island seems closed to all the new possibilities. It takes time to make a scene change.
